Possible masthead ideas

I have been looking at ways to create and arrange my magazine logo. I have decided the name of the magazine will be MTM which stands for more than music, I am aware however I will need some indication of what it stands for as it is not immediately obvious to a new reader of the magazine. I decided to have the logo bold as it will stand out and become obvious it is the logo of the magazine. Keeping the font simple also avoids any clashing on the page and makes it simple to read. Personally I feel the third and fourth ideas are the most professional looking and are most ideal for my magazine. The first and last are not ideal as they do not state what the magazine stand for. Based on the response of others, the majority have suggested using the fourth idea as it is clear and professional.

Test shots

I understand with my test shots I have been very limited within camera angles and location. However at this point I was unsure even what pose I was wanting for my main cover artist and so I felt my test shots were simply an experiment to see what worked and what did not. I have also included two of every image-one in black and white and one in a slightly saturated version. This is because I feel by de-satirising a photo you can get a whole different interpretation and a pose can look completely different. What I have learnt from these shots are that firstly for my front cover it is vital eye contact is made with the audience, it is more appealing and makes you more likely to buy the magazine. Secondly, I have featured the models arms/hands in many of the photos. I feel by doing this it gives the model a more relaxed and natural shot rather than a stiff forced pose. A relaxed shot is something I want for my double page spread, however for my front cover I think a pose is necessary.

Desicions I have made:
-The front cover will be a black and white posed for mid shot. Eye contact will be made. Photo location will be in a studio or if within a location, will be cut around and placed onto a plain background.
-The double page spread will be a long shot, less posed for and eye contact does not have to be made. Photo location is vital for this page, it will be running over the two pages and needs to be interesting rather than a studio.

Band profile

Erica Emm is a 20 year old singer/song writer from London. In 2010, Ericas album 'The annoyance of a good example ' was released in July and her song 'lose their temper, lose their worth' made it to the top 40 in November. She began her British tour in 2011 around venues such as the 02 in Leicester and Rock city in Nottingham. Her passion for music started from a younger age when Erica began to learn how to play the guitar and shortly discovered her talent of singing. She formed a band with her peers at school and began playing at small venues which other bands played. Erica was recognised for her musical talent and was offered a record label by Parlophone records.

Golden spiral research

Your viewer's gaze will be invited along the line of the spiral which creates a more symmetrical visual flow and a compelling experience. You want to place the subject (or focal point) of your photograph in the tightest end of the spiral, and the other elements of the picture should roughly follow the path of the spiral. The Golden Spiral can be rotated in the frame or transposed from top to bottom so you can create more variety when you are composing pictures. Taking pictures using the Golden Spiral is a more fluid and visually compelling way to structure your photos

Magazine Pitch

Evaluation
I think overall my pitch went fairly well. I did receive a fair few questions which could perhaps suggest it wasn't as obvious and informative as I hoped. I was able to answer most of the questions from my classmates showing I'd thought out a clear idea for my magazine.  However some questions made me aware what I needed to focus more on. For example at this point I was unsure about a magazine name, I had hoped for suggestions but I understand it is not very easy to generate ideas immediately. Looking back I could have displayed a number of ideas and asked for class feedback which seemed to have work successfully for other people in the class.  Another element of my magazine I was unsure about was photo shoot locations, I knew I wanted a location shot for the double page spread but was unsure where. Again, I could have displayed options to where I was thinking and asked for class feedback. I am aware if I was to do this again I would include more information to reduce the amount of questions asked at the end. I would also cover things in more detail.
