Evaluation question 4.Who would be the audience for your media product?

To show what sort of people would buy and read my magazine I have decided to write about a target audience member in detail. Lucy is white 17 year old girl. She is in her first year of sixth form at a college in the centre of her town and is studying photography, English literature/language, media and film studies at AS level. She hopes to pass her AS levels to continue studying to A level. She has hopes to attend a university to combine her passion for photography, media and English to study a music journalism course. One of Lucy’s main interests and hobbies include photography, her camera is something she will take most places as she enjoys capturing pictures of places she goes. Her other interests include blogging, socialising and travelling. A big part of Lucy’s life is music and the majority of her music taste is of an alternative rock genre, some of her favourite artists/bands include bloc party, the Courteeners, the strokes and Frank Turner. These are musical artists which tend to play at smaller venues rather than arenas which is something Lucy prefers attending “I feel that attending a venue such a rock city is so much better to see your favourite music artists. You can get so much closer to them and it feels more personal rather than being about a mile away sat in an arena seat” Another benefit of attending smaller venues is that the price is much cheaper which is useful as Lucy is a student and does not have a personal income.  Last year Lucy started attending local festivals such as summer sundae and strawberry fields; this developed her love for festivals and resulted in her purchasing a Leeds ticket for this year. Fashion is another element of Lucy’s life that is important to her, she does not consider herself to follow trends and therefore she tends to avoid the main high street shops such as river island, H&M, new look and Topshop. Instead Lucy likes to shop at smaller little ‘one off’ shops and enjoys finding the odd bargain on Ebay, in charity or vintage stores.  Overall Lucy would be scene as a member of an 'Alternative tribe' (according to uktribes.com). Members of this particular group tend to be wary of the mainstream and prefer to be different. The majority of the group is made up of white middle class people, they're passionate about music and the best way to reach out to this particular group is through niche magazines and social media.

I think Lucy is a good and realistic representation of an audience member who would buy my magazine. My magazine will feature bands of a specific musical genre, appealing to people of very specific taste. Bands/artists featured will also tend not to be mainstream, focusing away from what the majority is interested in. They will also influence and inspire the way in which my audience will dress as people such as Lucy prefer to dress in relation to their music interests. Not only will the music artists inspire the audience members but the content of the magazine will so too-for example photoshoots appeal and inspire the photographer reader. Furthermore the advertising included within my magazine will reach out to my audience members as it will include smaller more unique buisness's that again interest my readers.
